Capstone Project Sign-up

  • Descriptions of each of this year's capstone projects can be reached from the Project Preference Form. Given the large number of students involved, please do not consult with the individual instructors about their projects. Base your project preference ranking on the attached descriptions alone.

  • It is possible that some projects will be more popular than others and it is impossible to guarantee that you will not be assigned to your least preferred project. However, experience shows that most (75%) of the students receive their first, second, or third choice. Once the assignment has been made, it will not be possible to make any changes.

  • It is important for everyone to remember that the capstone project has been designed as a team exercise within which individual contributions must be blended as part of a team venture.

  • You are advised to link your baccalaureate thesis with your capstone project. Your faculty advisor and STS instructor will advise you on this issue. You are free to do otherwise if you wish, although this will not relieve you from work required as part of the capstone team exercise. Please read the Capstone & Thesis FAQ.

  • Register for the appropriate Section of SYS 453, using the section and schedule number associated with the faculty for your assigned project. Schedule numbers are listed on the Project Preference Form. Section numbers can be found online in the COD.

  • SYS 453 is a three credit course and should be given the corresponding level of effort throughout the semester and academic year.

  • Capstone projects will involve numerous contacts with clients. Remember that these are working people whose job depends on their performance. If you plan to meet with any clients, experts, etc., be prepared! This means come armed with a complete agenda, a list of specific questions, required documents, computer disks, and anything else that might be needed. Always be professional and dress in a manner appropriate to the person being visited.
