BIOGRAPHY: 

Thomas Polmateer has a broad logistics background with the U.S. Army. His experience includes being an instructor at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) and the Army Force Management School (AFMS) where he was responsible for teaching strategy, campaign planning, force management, logistics, science and technology, and equipment modernization. His technical expertise spans the DOD Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS), Defense Materiel Acquisition System (DAS), and Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) process.

Biography:

Stephen Adams is a Research Scientist in the Systems and Information Engineering (SIE) department at the University of Virginia (UVA).  He successfully defended his dissertation in August of 2015 and will receive his Ph.D. from SIE in December of 2015.  Prior to joining the Ph.D. program, he worked for UVA’s Environmental Health and Safety department and completed his Master’s degree in Statistics as a part-time student.  He is currently part of the Adaptive Decision Systems Lab at UVA and his research is applied to several domains including activity recognition, prognostics and health management for manufacturing systems, and predictive modeling of destination given user geo-information data.

Biography:
Gary assists department researchers in the demonstration of system aware cyber physical security concepts for the protection of critical cyber physical systems including vehicles, UAVs, and Industrial Control Systems.  Projects include securing combat vehicle fire control systems for the Army, initial development of hardware and software for a cyber physical test range, and demonstration of attacks and protections on a police cruiser.  Gary's skills include programming in C++ and Python, quick prototyping of secure hardware and sensors using SBCs (Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone Black, etc) and micro-controllers (Arduino Uno, Teensy, etc).
Gary has also worked in the School of Medicine assisting in the development of algorithms that use physiological data to predict critical patient outcomes.  He was also an Air Force civil servant for ten years working in modeling and simulation of ground threat systems and drone control.  He was an instructor of math, computer science, and engineering at Georgia Southern University for three years.  He is also a retired Air Force officer with experience in flight testing, intelligence support, and computational aerodynamics research.
