Design and Analysis of Simulators for Training Medical and Nursing Professionals

Goals:
To train clinicians to detect and diagnose prostate and breast cancers at the early stages by ensuring that skills are systematic, time-effective and highly accurate.

Projects currently underway include:
  • designing and building a computerized and physical (hybrid) simulator to train prostate examination skills to clinicians
  • defining design characteristics such as basic elements of life-like anatomy, multiple and reconfigureable scenarios with graded levels of difficulty, and feedback on trainee technique and performance
  • separating the skills and rules level of decision making (using Rasmussen's SRK framework)
  • evaluating the simulator with medical and nursing practitioner students
